The Screenplay Shootout

The Screenplay Shootout was created to develop a pipeline between undiscovered screenwriters and the Hollywood filmmaking community. Driven by the success of our past winners and finalists, the Screenplay Shootout has rapidly become an important source for new screenwriting talent within the Hollywood community and worldwide.

History

In 2004, the inaugural Screenplay Shootout was co-sponsored by Benderspink. Since then, the Shootout has established relationships with some of Hollywood’s top producers, managers and agents. The Screenplay Shootout has become a launching pad for the next generation of screenwriters. Take a look at our success stories.

2009 Highlights

We’re constantly working to provide our participants with tools and resources that will impact their writing goals. With that in mind, we’ve made some exciting improvements to this year’s Shootout. We are pleased to announce our new sponsors Write Brothers, InkTip.com, and The Writers Store. Write Brothers are the developers of Movie Magic Screenwriter 6 — the preferred writing software of the industry’s most successful writers. We’ve also expanded the number of producers, managers and agents that will be reading the scripts of the Top 5 Finalists including Benderspink, Foremost Films, The Radmin Company & Energy Entertainment among others. For a complete list of companies reading the winning scripts (see here).

The Grand Prize Winner, Top 5 Finalists and Top 40 Finalists will be announced on our website, in our industry newsletter, and a Press Release will be distributed throughout the Hollywood Community.

As an additional service for this year’s participants, we are offering the option of script analysis. If you are interested in our feedback you would the feedback, our judges will provide you with 2 – 3 pages of notes focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of story structure, character development, and writing style. For more information see script analysis.

Along with this year’s changes, the Top 5 Finalists will be awarded over $8,500 in cash and prizes.
